Man of many talents, American designer, architect, artist, Tom Sachs presents a large-scale ‘Miffy’ in the round. The hand bashed poster board like material, with big gobs of super glue, pull together a delightfully humorous creature. If placed closer to the KAWS outdoor companion, perhaps this bunny is its plaything that has been through the wars of early childhood. Many may know Miffy as the fictional cartoon character created by Dutch artist Dick Bruna.
Tom Sachs Spotlight
Across the hall, BANKSY’s ‘Painting for a Sound System Lorry (1998)’ reminds me of modern American war movies with the penetrating woof-woof of the helicopter wings, here piping in hard rock (like Jimi Hendrix, Purple Haze). This is the imaginative success of another work taken from the street, literally.
There is so much more artwork to discover, down every hallway and corridor, in all areas of the hotel and gym and spa. It’s a remarkable collection that is constantly evolving, so please be sure to explore and visit again.
